The school of Urban Construction originated from Wuchang Architectural Engineering School established in 1954. It has a history of 64 years. There are 98 full-time teachers, including 18 professors and 51 associate professors;44 teachers with Ph.Ds; 2 doctoral supervisors, 33 master supervisors; 1 Chutian scholar; 16 visiting scholars abroad.
The school has a doctoral degree authorization point for the second-level disciplines of geotechnical and underground engineering and a master's degree authorization point for the first-level disciplines of civil engineering, covering six second-level disciplines of geotechnical engineering, structural engineering, municipal engineering, heating, gas supply, ventilation and air conditioning engineering, disaster prevention and mitigation engineering and protection engineering, bridge and tunnel engineering. 1 Engineering Master's authorized areas: Architecture and civil engineering.
The schoolhas five undergraduate majors: urban and rural planning, architecture, civil engineering, water supply and drainage science and engineering, building environment and energy application engineering. Among them, the major of architectural environment and energy application engineering is the provincial brand specialty, the major of water supply and drainage science and engineering is the pilot specialty of Hubei strategic emerging (pillar) industry talent training program, and the major of civil engineering is the school-level brand specialty. The major of architectural environment and energy application engineering and the major of water supply and drainage science and engineering have passed the professional evaluation and certification of national colleges and universities respectively.
The school has a research and development center jointly constructed by universities and enterprises in Hubei Province, a research and development center of intelligent energy-saving glass curtain wall jointly constructed by universities and enterprises in Hubei Province, a provincial key experimental teaching demonstration center, an experimental teaching demonstration center for urban and rural construction and environmental development, and a provincial experimental teaching demonstration center, an experimental teaching demonstration center for building equipment. The teaching laboratory covers an area of more than 4900 square meters, with 2184 sets of experimental equipment, with a total value of more than 39 million yuan.
Theschool has Institutes of geotechnical and underground engineering, structural engineering and disaster prevention and mitigation, municipal engineering and water environment, HVAC and new energy, road and bridge and rail transit, and architecture and urban and rural planning. Over the past 5 years, more than 300 vertical and horizontal scientific research projects have been undertaken, of which more than 10 national level projects have been undertaken. Achieved a number of domestic and international advanced level results, won 8 provincial and ministerial scientific and technological awards, published more than 600 academic papers in authoritative journals at home and abroad, published 19 monographs (textbooks), and Automatic Control Principles and CAI Course for the national Twelfth Five-Year Plan teaching materials.
Over the decades, the school has educated and turned out more than 26,000 graduates, many of them are playing a vital role in China’s modernization process.
